CMP PCA Sprint
Race and Enduro
Autometrics Motorsports had an
exceptional showing at the second CMP Club Race of the season.
More than a dozen cars competing in the event are regular
customers. The Red group was dominated by GT3 Supercup cars in the GTC3
class. Leh Keen and Cory Friedman took the top 2 GTC3 qualifying
spots for the sprint race behind McNeil's prototype 914. An
incident in turn-1 at the start took Cory and another car out of the
race. Neither car was damaged terribly, and we appreciate the
involved driver's generous contribution to repairing our quarter panel.
Leh
went on to win the race without too much opposition, but the real race
was in the battle for 2nd place in GTC3. Gary Pennington qualified
6th in class but had an incredible run that earned him the 2nd place
spot, his best finish in GTC3 this season. Rick Longano started
4th, but avoiding the turn-1 collision dropped him back to the middle of
the field. He spent the race fighting back to his starting
position, but unfortunately was not able to make the podium.
In the
yellow group, Steve Johnson started with his GT2 on pole and went on to
win B class. Mac McGehee was able to remove his 'X' after his
first place finish in D class in the sprint race. McGrath Keen
finished 2nd in GTC2. Mike Branning and Jim Strowd finished 7th and
4th , respectively in the competitive F class. Rick Brownyard also pulled off his Rookie
'X' after the
weekend.
The 2 Enduro groups were combined at the last minute, so
there was a full field of GTC3 - I class cars. The driver line-up
for some cars changed for this race as well. Leh drove the GTC2
car McGrath was in and put that car 2nd on the grid, ahead of all of the
GTC3 cars except Rick Longano's. Cory co-drove with Rick for the
enduro and in addition to putting Rick's #3 on pole, he also turned the
fastest GTC3 time of the weekend and won the race overall. Cory also drove Mike Branning's
car in the enduro, and they ended up 5th. Despite a flat tire, Mac McGehee was still able
to pull off a class win, as we were able to get the tire changed during
the mandatory 5-minute stop. Gary Pennington and Rick Brownyard
also drove the 90 minute race solo.
We would like to congratulate all
of our customers who participated in the races, and thank them for their
continued support. Being one of the closer tracks, we expected a
big turn-out for this event, but we were very pleased and impressed with
the results. |
