The opening round of the PCA Calendar at Sebring is always a huge event. This year's race drew what we were told was a record number of GT3 Cup cars ever at a single event. It was not just Cup cars with a large field either. There were 4 run groups with heavy competition in every class.
In the Green Sprint Group, Wade Caughman qualified for the race 7th in C, but a miss-shift by a car ahead of him caused a pile-up that resulted in significant front-end damage to Wade's car. Fortunately, he was cleared to run the enduro. Wes Taylor started in the top 5 and improved to take the last podium position in D. Jimmy Martin picked up 3 positions during the sprint, finishing in 4th, and Harrison Murray moved up 7 positions on the charts.
GTC3 and GTC4 996 and 997 GT3 Cup cars comprised the entire Red Run Group. This provided very tight fields and very close racing where a couple tenths could mean a couple positions. Gary Pennington charged through the field picking up 9 positions during the race. Anthony also had a good run improving his starting position by 7 to make it into the top 15. Rick Stafford qualified in the top-15 and moved up to 13th, just behind Forrest Bowen.
Enduro Race Grids were set by Sprint race lap times. Jimmy took the final spot on the E class pdoium. Harrison narrowly missed a yellow-stop, and some strange re-ordering after the red flag pushed him back to 14th position. Repairs to Wade's front corner took until race time, but we got him out only a lap down to the field. Depsite the lap, we managed to finish within the top-10. Wes also had a strong race finishing 6th. Anthony and Chuck continued to improve through the weekend and finsihed the enduro 5th and 12th in their respective classes.
Considering we had 10 cars at the event, the weekend was nearly trouble-free. Sebring offers its own unique challenges with broken axles and pitching belts, but our crew was able to get every car out for every race.
