NASA Racing at VIR :

July 29-30, 2006

The Mid Atlantic Region of NASA held an event on VIR's North Course featuring 2 sprint races and a Time Trial Class.

Anthony Jernigan and Forrest Bowen competed in the races in their GT3 Cup cars.  Anthony topped all of the practice time sheets and qualified on pole with Forrest close behind him each session.

The first race featured a split start with the faster cars starting after a group of slower cars.  Anthony and Forrest made their way through traffic and finished top 2 despite the race being shortened by a red flag when a competitor rolled.

The two GT3 Cup cars held inside and outside pole for the start of Sunday's race.  This race employed a standing start which really stirred things up.  Anthony got away clean, but got nailed in the first turn by a Mustang attempting a risky move.  Forrest did not get off any easier, stalling at the start.  Both cars fell back to around 20th or so but immediately began to slice through the field.  A few laps later, Jernigan ran over a curb and flattened a tire ending his race.  Bowen was able to move into the top 3, but this race also ended early by a lap or 2 and left Forrest about 3 seconds back of the overall race winner.

In the Time Trial group, Forrest was essentially unchallenged in his GT3.  His times were easily the quickest of any car in the group.  Jim Strowd also showed up to instruct and run his 911 in the DE group.
