Grand American Road Racing Background
Bill France, Jr. and Jim France founded Grand American Road Racing to revitalize the tradition of sports car racing in the United States and to fill the void in the marketplace that they believed existed between stock car racing  (NASCAR, ARCA) and open wheel racing (IRL, CART).  Their goal was to deliver thrilling and exciting sports car racing with a formula that maximized the entertainment value for the fans and the marketing value for the sponsor partners, while responsibly managing the cost of participation for the teams and tracks.

Grand American Road Racing Overview

Grand American Road Racing Association is the premier sanctioning body for sports car racing in North America.

Grand American consists of two distinct racing series:

  • Rolex Sports Car Series:  Premier Series with Daytona Prototypes and GT Class racecars
  • Grand-Am Cup Series:      Support Series featuring production cars

Grand American Road Racing Competition

Teams and drivers kickoff their racing season at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, prior to the Daytona 500.  This true test of endurance brings out the best of the best as drivers from around the world take to Daytona International Speedway for the twice around the clock classic.

Drivers from four continents and nineteen countries have been represented in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series.

Grand American Road Racing 2005 Growth

In 2006, the grand American Road Racing Association experienced its biggest year ever in the organization’s seven year history.  The increased action and close competition in both the Rolex Sports Car Series and the Grand-Am Cup Series caught the attention of fans at the races and watching at home, as both series have posted gains in race attendance, television ratings, households and total viewership in 2005. In addition, media coverage is at an all-time high.
